Pianist, composer, producer, and educator Elan Mehler has built a multifaceted career centered on thoughtful, energetic music that bridges composed material and improvisational exploration. Elan first came to international attention after being heard by legendary broadcaster Gilles Peterson during an Alpine club residency — an encounter that led to a recording contract with Brownswood Recordings. Over nearly two decades, Mehler has released 12 acclaimed recordings as a leader and collaborator, including his trio work, solo albums, and projects with artists such as Bill Frisell, Becca Stevens and Dave Douglas.

Die brandneue Combo um den pianistischen Tausendsassa Jörg Hochapfel versammelt drei mit allen stilistischen Wassern gewaschene Musikerinnen, die sich zusammen auf eine seltsam irrlichternde Reise zwischen Bebop, Boogaloo, Kitsch, Free Jazz und Minimalismus machen, auf dem neuesten Stand altmodisch, opulent spröde und gelegentlich sogar fragwürdig tanzbar.
Und dabei beweisen, dass tiefschwarze Melancholie manchmal mit einem schiefen Grinsen daherkommt.

Alle drei sind natürlich auch für sich schon Bekanntheiten der Berliner Szene: Jörg mit seinem surrealen Quartett Bruchgold & Koralle, dem seltsamen Ambient-Duo Palais d’Amour und den musikalischen Grenzforschern Hunger, Isabel mit Flut, OBSiDiAN, Rupp/Rößler/Hall, Trespassing Rooms, SORBD, dem Brad Henkel Quartet, dem Red Color Trio und dem Omniversal Earkestra, und Jan mit (u.v.a.) Gebhard Ullmann, Allan Praskin, Larry Porter, Henrik Walsdorff und Alexander von Schlippenbach.

The brand-new combo led by pianist Jörg Hochapfel brings together three musicians who know a lot of tricks in a lot of different books. Together they embark on a strangely zigzagging journey between bebop, boogaloo, kitsch, free jazz, and minimalism, yielding music that is cutting-edge old-fashioned, opulently brittle, and occasionally even questionably danceable.
Thus also proving that deep black melancholy sometimes comes with a crooked grin.

All three are, of course, famous in their own right: Jörg with his surrealist quartet „Bruchgold & Koralle“, weird ambient duo „Palais d’Amour“ and music/non-music researchers „Hunger“, Isabel with Flut, OBSiDiAN, Rupp/Rößler/Hall, Trespassing Rooms, SORBD, Brad Henkel Quartet, Red Color Trio, The Omniversal Earkestra and Jan playing with Gebhard Ullmann, Allan Praskin, Larry Porter, Henrik Walsdorff, Alexander von Schlippenbach, among innumerable others.
