About the event

Challenging arts, nurturing futures
This panel will invite the audience to reflect on how emerging art forms can help society sense, question, and shape worlds beyond now.

About this Event

Imagine a utopic future society beyond now, where creativity, more-than-human aesthetics and complexity are precious, founding values. It may be a utopia, but even just thinking about how to build such a society can be enticing. So how do we get there?

How to craft meaningful art and knowledge when keywords have more weight than facts and a good prompt is more valuable than an original idea? How to explore the aesthetics of symbiosis, ethical entanglements of life, or the agency of non-human bodies in times of surging environmental depletion? And how to make complexity relevant for everyday experience? These questions do not allow for linear answers.

This panel will invite the audience to reflect on how emerging art forms can help society sense, question, and shape worlds beyond now. The event brings together Theresa Schubert, Margherita Pevere and Marco Donnarumma, three influential voices of the Berlin and international art and research community, and moderator Sarah Maske. Their individual works explore the intersections of biotechnology, embodied experience, and posthuman futures through ritual performance to machine perception and ecological intimacy.

The three artists will draw on their individual experience across art practice, scientific research and public engagement to weave generative approaches to making art that nurtures futures. Taking cues from their projects, including I am Your Body (Donnarumma), mEeat me (Schubert) and untaming death (Pevere), the panelist will engage with questions around deaf listening and intimacy, food and kinship, and mourning and regeneration from perspectives that transversally address technology, power, and ecology.

The session will actively engage the audience through short provocations supported by visual and haptic materials linked to the artists’ practice.
