About the event

Ethan Ostrow/Remee Ashley
Pianist Ethan Ostrow and trombonist Remee Ashley come home to Berkeley for a special Berkeley High Jazz reunion with bassist Owen Storey, and recent grad Elliott Martens on drums.

Ethan Ostrow is a Minneapolis-based pianist and composer who strives for an intense, lush sound. Equally comfortable in a variety of genres, Ethan has quickly become a staple of Minnesota's rich R&B, funk, soul, and jazz scenes. Ethan has performed extensively across the United States and abroad in Havana and Tokyo. He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, having been mentored by Stefon Harris, Ingrid Jensen, Jaleel Shaw, Phil Markowitz, and Jeremy Manasia. His time in New York City included performances at Birdland, Dizzy’s, Chelsea Table & Stage, Nublu, and Rockwood Music Hall with musicians such as Dayna Stephens, Kellin Hanas, Nick Marziani, and his own group The Outside In.

A native Berkeleyan, trombonist/composer/arranger and educator Remee Ashley developed a deep love for music through the nourishment and support of his mother, Jay Whittington, his church, St. Paul A.M.E., and his experience in the music programs in Berkeley's public schools. In 2016, Remee moved to New York to attend the Manhattan School of Music. During his time there, while pursuing both his Bachelors and Masters degrees, he performed at Dizzy’s Coca Cola, the Apollo Theatre, Carnegie Hall, and the Birdland Jazz Club alongside critically acclaimed musicians including Billy Childs, Joe Lavano, Jon Faddis, Arturo O’Farrill, Terence Blanchard, and Paquito D’Rivera and performed at the 2021 New York Fashion Week under the direction of LaQuan Smith. Remee recently obtained his Doctorate of Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California.

Tickets are $25 general admission and $15 for students with ID/low-income individuals. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or if the show is not sold out, you may purchase your tickets at the door before the show.

Doors open 30 minutes before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.
