Embracing the Small to Enlarge Our World

Embracing the Small to Enlarge Our World

As we grow older, our world may shrink. We may not be as active as we once were, travel as widely, socialize as frequently, or remain as busy as we used to be. This does not mean that this smaller world cannot be as rich of an experience. By learning to see what is right in front of us, we can discover exquisite beauty, experience intense joy, and feel connected throughout life’s transitions.

In this forum, Jane Anne Staw, a Bay Area writer and writing coach will teach ways to keep our world as large as possible.

About the speaker:Jane Anne Staw has taught at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop; Stanford University; at UC Berkeley Extension, and most recently, in the MFA Program in Writing at the University of San Francisco. She has been a Bay Area Writing Coach for the past 15 years, working with writers on projects ranging from memoirs and historical fiction to novels, short stories, and essays. Her books include: Small: The Little We Need for Happiness, Shanti Arts Publishing, 2017; Unstuck: A Supportive and Practical Guide to Working Through Writer’s Block, St. Martin’s, 2003, Parsnips in the Snow: Talks with Midwestern Gardeners (with Mary Swander), University of Iowa Press, 1990.
