Course Description:

The Heartsaver AED course is a single 3-hour class that will teach community members to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies. Students will learn the warning signs of choking and heart attacks. They will practice performing CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) on adults, children, and infants. They will learn to recognize choking emergencies, and how to intervene. Lastly, they will learn to recognize opioid emergencies. At the end of the class, students will take a hands-on skills tests. Upon successful completion, students will be mailed an American Heart Association CPR certification cards valid for 2 years. 

Berkeley Medical Reserve Corps offers high quality, low cost CPR classes to all members of the general community with an emphasis on the UC Berkeley campus. Because of the importance of immediate care in treating heart attacks and in relieving choking, we believe that large scale instruction of the campus community is vital to improving response to these medical emergencies. All instructors are volunteer, AHA-certified CPR instructors. 

Class Requirements:

-Each student is required by the American Heart Association to bring a copy of the current edition (2015) "Heartsaver CPR AED Student Workbook." It will be used during the class, and will act as a reference afterwards.

-The workbook can be purchased here electronically - for only $2.50.

-Dress comfortably.


-Please register with your legal name, or the name you would like to appear on the certification card. If you registered incorrectly, a $15 reprinting fee will be necessary to reprint your card.
