Berkeley South Asian Radical History Walking Tour

South Asians have been living in Northern California since at least 1850, but our histories are still little known. Join community historians Anirvan Chatterjee and Barnali Ghosh as you discover a century of radical South Asian American history in the streets of Berkeley over the course of a 2-mile walk. You'll visit original sites, hear stories, and come away inspired by histories of resistance and organizing, with a special focus on youth activism.

This is the perfect tour for Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and other South Asians; Cal students and Berkeley residents; and anyone with an interest in local, ethnic, or political histories. The tour ends near Downtown Berkeley BART. Bring comfortable walking shoes and a water bottle (in case you get thirsty).

Previous participants said:

"fantastic, interactive, inspiring, and provocative"

"I really felt a sense of belonging from this tour. Also liked that it was not Indo-centric."

"I found it really moving…there are roots within our community that connect to our current activism"
