Join us Friday, April 17th for a panel discussion and concert to kick-off the 57th Anniversary of People’s Park Celebration.

The Panel:
Rafael Jesús González; taught Creative Writing and Literature at Laney College where he founded the Mexican & Latin American Studies Department in 1969. Named the first Poet Laureate of Berkeley, CA in 2017.
Harold Adler; Photojournalist who covered Peoples Park, The Black Panthers and the Beat Poets during the late 60s and 70s.
Wendy Schlesinger, Master of Journalism, UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame, cofounder of People’s Park, is one of the few remaining keepers of the origins story of the Park. She believes the creation of People’s Park represents the beginning of the modern communitarian ecology movement, where hundreds of people came together to transform a dangerous vacant lot into a beautiful, shared outpouring of joy.

The Music:
Hali Hammer, an award-winning songwriter who has been playing for social justice causes for decades, accompanied by lead guitarist Randy Berge.
Andrea Prichett, a long-time supporter of People's Park and a founding member of Berkeley Copwatch, joined by Mike Derrick and on guitar and harmony vocals.
Funky Nixons, Berkeley's Premiere Political Band Since 1990.
