- **Event Description**: Monday Lectures at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen is pleased to invite you all to the public lecture "blaxTARLINES Kumasi: From KNUST Studios to the World Stage" by artists Edwin Bodjawah and Kwaku Boafo Kissiedu.

The lecture explores the concepts, principles, and strategies that have reshaped the teaching and practice of art in Ghana. It highlights the success within a collaborative learning community, where experimentation, research, and critical inquiry take center stage.

Edwin Kwesi Bodjawah (PhD) is a Professor of Fine Art and heads the globally acclaimed Fine Art department and the Opoku Ware II Museum at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumas, Ghana. He is a former Dean of the Faculty of Art. He researches into issues related to contemporary art and art education on the African continent as well as serial reproduction of African mask forms. Critical to Bodjawah’s current practice is his ritual surfing of the internet to select images of masks that have found their way into museums of the global north and reproducing them serially through a hybrid of artisanal and semi-mechanical means, collaborative manufacture and display. He has had solo shows at the Museum of Science and Technology Accra (2026) and the Cape Coast castle (2017). Bodjawah is a cofounder and patron of blaxTARLINES, an art incubator and project space affiliated with the Fine Art Department in Kumasi.

Kwaku Boafo Kissiedu (Castro) is an artist, intellectual, educator, and facilitator of arts and cultural programs. He serves as a lecturer in the renowned Fine Art Department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana. Alongside colleagues like kąrî'kạchä seid'ou, Edwin Kwesi Bodjawah and George Buma Ampratwum, he has been at the forefront of pioneering transformative changes in fine art education, helping position Kumasi as a vibrant, creative hub that nurtures emerging artists making waves on the global stage. Castro is also a co-founder and the director of blaxTARLINES, a leading fine art community in Kumasi, where he coordinates various collaborative exchange programs between local and international institutions.

The lecture is part of an exchange partnership between KMD and KNUST supported by Erasmus+.
