Campers will explore the fundamentals of sewing while building real skills that bring ideas from concept to creation.Participants will learn how sewing machines work and gain confidence using them as they dive into reading and customizing patterns, taking accurate body measurements, constructing seams, and making alterations. Along the way, campers will discover how small design changes can turn a simple project into a one-of-a-kind creation.This is a project-driven camp, offering a wide variety of sewing projects to choose from—allowing each camper to work at their own pace while mastering new techniques. Whether creating accessories, apparel, or custom fabric items, students will develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and pride in their finished work.By the end of the camp, students will leave with completed projects, foundational sewing knowledge, and the confidence to continue exploring sewing and design on their own.Camp Details & RequirementsAges 8 and upClosed-toe shoes requiredNo loose clothing or dangling jewelryLong hair must be tied backPerfect for creative campers who love hands-on making and want to learn a practical, lifelong skill in a fun and supportive Fab Lab environment!Our camps are designed for the participants to learn to come up with problem solving techniques and "make things". Sometimes, this involves failing, returning to the original concept and trying again. We want to create an environment of trying, re-thinking the process, and trying again to make the design better. We believe this approach encourages creative thinking and determination in addition to exposing them to new technologies.Registration for this camp closes one week prior to allow time to purchase required materials. Registration is limited. Projects are subject to change based on material availability. Once registered, you'll receive an email asking for the participant(s) name, age, and gender for our instructor's roster. If you have questions, please email them to fablab@lakemichigancollege.edu.By purchasing a ticket, you consent to following all the rules related to the Fab Lab and any others to maintain safety for all participants within the lab.The Fab Lab is a place where students can build science, technology, engineering and math skills through hands on learning.
