Refreshments will follow the meeting.This session will cover current scam trends in Vermont, how to spot common scams, practical prevention strategies and what to do if you or someone you know is targeted. Guest speakers are members of a coalition of federal and state partners committed to bringing scam prevention and awareness strategies to Vermont communities. Depending on availability, presenters may include personnel from the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI, Attorney General’s Consumer Assistance Program and Department of Financial Regulation.“Many of us know someone who has been a victim of a scam, from a purchase from a fraudulent online vendor to identity theft, and some of us have been victims of a swindle ourselves, ” said Berta Winiker, AAUW program committee chair. “Here’s an opportunity to learn from fraud prevention experts how toquickly recognize scams for what they are and stop them before they start.”The event is free and open to the public.
