This special event will feature an in-conversation with Grace Tame, offering our regional community a rare opportunity to engage with a speaker more often seen on major city stages.

Named Australian of the Year in 2021, Grace Tame is a survivor-advocate, bestselling author, columnist, and founder of the Grace Tame Foundation. Her leadership in overturning Tasmania’s gag laws sparked national reform and reshaped conversations around justice, child safety, neurodiversity, and systemic change. Grace is widely respected for her ability to challenge audiences with clarity, compassion, and conviction.

This event represents a significant moment for our region, reinforcing Women Connect and Be.Bendigo’s commitment to equity, empowerment, and ensuring regional communities have access to world-class speakers and conversations.

- [maree sommerville | 2026-02-23 06:05:24] I am surprised to learn Grace Tame is still headlining this event given her current call for global intifada against Jews.  Intifada calls for violence against the Jewish people.  I was in Sydney when our own intifada occurred at Bondi. It was horrible and senseless.  Grace has positioned herself as a woman speaking out for other women who have suffered sexual violence, yet she has not spoken out for those women who suffered sexual violence on Oct 7, 2023, or to those held hostage after that awful attack.  Nor has she spoken out about the celebration of victory as Shani Louk's semi naked body was paraded through the streets of Gaza, or the young girl forced to walk to a Hamas jeep with blood all around her groin (not hard to guess why).  If Grace were outraged about these war crimes, I would praise her gladly and support her for speaking at this event, but she has now positioned herself as in favour of violence against Jews which unconscionable.  Her position as an advocate for women is now compromised.
