Modal music – music that focuses on scales instead of chords – is often associated with Middle Eastern music. While it is common in the Middle East, modal music is actually a part of a wide range of traditions. The program will include modal – inspired music from a variety of cultures, including:Celtic dances and airsMedieval European musicBartok’s Romanian folk dancesModern music drawing from Greek, Turkish, Bulgarian, and Norwegian traditionsCome listen to the similarities for yourself, and enjoy the reminder that we’re less different from one another than we sometimes think.PerformersEllery Klein, fiddleKarl Orvik, violinJames Perretta, viola da gambaTev Stevig, various plucked strings (lavta, laouto, tanbur, etc.), bowed strings (yaylı tanbur, rebab), bendir (frame drum)Tickets / DonationsWe welcome anyone who would like to attend! Parking is available in front of the building, with overflow parking available in the lot on the corner of Lexington and Beech Street.We are also walking distance from Waverly Square, which is serviced by the Commuter Rail and 73 bus. Bike racks are available in front of the building for riders.Accessibility InformationPowers currently requires guests to go up a short flight of stairs to the main floor of the school. We are committed to improving access to our building for those with limited mobility. The school is in the early stages of this large and important project, but there is no formal timeline set for when it will be started/completed as of yet.Questions about ticketing, venue accessibility, donations, or anything else?
