In the face of climate change, it’s easy to feel despair. Yet small personal gestures—like growing a garden or walking among the trees—can bring us solace, inspire hope, even motivate us toward action and away from apathy.
Join Claudia Castro Luna, former Washington State Poet Laureate, for an event that is part poetry reading, part discussion, part writing workshop. Green Expectations explores the importance of trees and plants in our lives, challenging perceptions of as passive forms and presenting them as beings with agency who can teach us about beauty, faith, interconnectedness, and our own sense of self.
Claudia Castro Luna is a former Washington State Poet Laureate (2018–2021) and Seattle’s inaugural Civic Poet (2015-2018). She is the author of four poetry collections, including two which were shortlisted for the Washington State Book Award: Cipota Under the Moon and Killing Marías. She also writes nonfiction and teaches poetry and creative writing. Claudia lives in Tacoma.
This program is in conjunction with Whatcom READS and sponsored by Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau.
Esta charla estará disponible en espagnol en Village Books el 28 de febrero de 2 a 3:30 de la tarde.
