Meet at Whatcom Falls Park parking by fish hatchery, Silver Beach Road - 1574 Silver Beach Rd, Bellingham, WA 98229
Let’s explore Whatcom Falls Park. We’ll start in the parking lot, walk past the fish hatchery, and make our way through a wooded section to Derby Pond. There should be opportunities for various waterfowl viewings there. We’ll continue to another trail that leads to the Scudder Wetlands/Pond.
We'll then spend some time in the wetlands area. From fall through spring, we should have opportunities for various waterfowl sightings on both sides of the bridge, and a view of Scudder Pond and the Derby Pond marsh along the trail. From there, we'll go back along Whatcom Falls Creek and eventually to our starting point. Of course, no trip would be complete without a view of the old stone bridge, built by WPA, to view the falls.
There are bathrooms available at the start of the trip. We will be walking mostly on gravel paths although some of the forest paths have uneven ground. There will be very minimal elevation gain.
