The poems in "Missing Orion" express a deep reverence for the natural world, whether it is the night skies of the Sierras, the towering conifers of the Pacific Northwest, or roses gathered at the edge of a building site. They describe a childhood spent in California and on a homestead in the wilds of Canada. With clarity, compassion, and wisdom, they explore the complexities of a long, happy marriage and celebrate love, family, and friendship. A quiet, powerful, and luminous collection.

"Missing the Owl" is Richard Widerkehr's fifth poetry collection, and uses different voices and personas to reflect on the past, present, and future, and one's reckoning with uncertainty, pain, loss, and death. Widerkehr lands squarely upon the truth and beauty of accepting nature and its relative disquietude.

Barbara Bloom grew up in California and on a remote coastal homestead in British Columbia, Canada. After returning to California, she taught English at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz. Her poems have appeared in Catamaran Review, Shark Reef Review, and Raven Chronicles. She has published three books of poetry – "On The Water Meridian," with Hummingbird Press in 2007 and "Pulling Down the Heavens," with Hummingbird Press in 2017. And this year – "Missing Orion," with Shanti Arts Publishing.

Barbara will be joined by award-winning poet and novelist Richard Widerkehr. Richard has worked as a teacher in the Upward Bound Program at Western Washington University and as a counselor on the mental health unit of a hospital. Richard Widerkehr’s fifth book of poems, "Missing The Owl," is available from Shanti Arts Publications. He has also published three chapbooks and one novel, "Sedimental Journey" (Tarragon Books). His work has appeared in Bellingham Review, Atlanta Review, Midwest Review, and many others. He won two Hopwood first prizes for poetry at the University of Michigan, three Sue C. Boynton awards, and first prize for a short story at the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference. Garrison Keillor also broadcast one of his poems on Writer’s Almanac.
