- **Event Description**: Attendees of this first session are in for a treat as our local expert on planting for monarch butterflies leads the way! Nancy Crews is a passionate butterfly advocate, Master Gardener, and conservationist. She serves as Director of the nonprofit Milkweed Matters, whose mission is to educate the public about pollinator conservation and restore native pollinator habitat along roadsides and in community gardens. This year, Milkweed Matters celebrates 12 years of dedicated pollinator conservation work.

Nancy also serves on the board of Green Bellevue and is co-chair of Bellevue’s Bee City USA committee.

During this session, attendees will learn how to plant to attract monarchs and gain practical insight into what each of us can do to protect and expand habitat in our own neighborhoods and communities. 

The Native Plant Series is brought to the community by Victoria Bogatz, Nebraska Youth Poet Laureate and Bellevue East High School Senior.  The Nebraska Writers Collective provided her the resources and support to create a civic engagement project. Per Bogatz, "Using my passion for environmental education, I decided to create a workshop series on native plants."  Green Bellevue is thrilled with the initiative and subject matter chosen, given our community has hundreds of native plant gardeners, many have just begun in the past year.  The 4 session series will begin on February 15th and all the details will be announced soon.  For now, please save the dates!

February 22nd at 1 pm: Hear from Nancy Scott, Nebraska Certified Nurseryman

March 8th at 1 pm: Hear from Amanda Stastny, Owner of Bumbling Bee Native Wildflowers

March 14th at 11 am: Hear from Bob Hendrickson, Horticulture Program Coordinator at PlantNebraska
