- **Event Name**: Native Plants 101 - Famous Gardens & the Native Plants that Grace Them
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 08 Mar, 2026 at 01:00 pm
- **Event Description**: The Native Plant Series is brought to the community by Victoria Bogatz, Nebraska Youth Poet Laureate and Bellevue East High School Senior. The Nebraska Writers Collective provided her the resources and support to create a civic engagement project. Per Bogatz, "Using my passion for environmental education, I decided to create a workshop series on native plants." Green Bellevue is thrilled with the initiative and subject matter chosen, given our community has hundreds of native plant gardeners, many have just begun in the past year.

On March 8th, Amanda Stastny, the owner of Bumbling Bee Native Wildflowers will be presenting Get Inspired! Famous Gardens and the Native Plants that Grace Them.

This presentation will briefly touch on the importance of urban habitat. Then we will examine several nationally-renowned pollinator gardens, focusing on the native flora included in their designs. These examples will generate plenty of ideas for our own home and community gardens!

Amanda Stastny started growing native plants in 2022 after a concussion put her on an extended leave of absence from work. Finding native plants species for sale that were also affordable was challenging. So she began growing the plants that she wanted for her own yard, then selling the extras on Facebook marketplace. In August of 2023, still dealing with considerable concussion effects, Amanda decided not to return to graduate school, and established Bumbling Bee Native Wildflowers. The business has grown considerably each year and this year they are attempting to grow over 180 species. This aligns with the Bumbling Bee mission to make native plants affordable and accessible.
