The event and plant sale are open to all, although there is a fee for the lectures.

Event Details:

WSU Extension King County Master Gardeners will be at Bellevue Botanical Garden (BBG) on Sunday, September 13, with talks about the important role that native plants and pollinators can play in your garden to actively protect and enhance PNW biodiversity.

Alma Cardenas: “The Invisible Ecosystem at Home: Gardening for Biodiversity in a Changing World”

Washington’s biodiversity is extraordinary but increasingly at risk. This talk explores the current state of biodiversity, the ecological processes that sustain life, and the disturbance regimes reshaping ecosystems. Discover how your backyard can provide food, water, shelter, and space for wildlife, and learn simple, powerful ways to garden for change and ecological resilience.

Molly van der Burch: “Keystone Plants: Nature’s VIPs in Your Garden”

Discover how a small group of native plants can power your entire garden ecosystem. Learn which Pacific Northwest keystone trees, shrubs, and perennials support pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects—and how choosing the right plants can transform your garden into a thriving habitat.

Cassie Knavel: “Discover the threats invasive species bring to your yard and community”
