"Effective Education Initiatives for rural India" - A talk by Dr. Balaji Sampath
The talk will focus on the recent Education Initiatives launched by AID India in collaboration with other grass root groups that are now implemented in several districts of Tamil Nadu.
About Dr. Balaji Sampath
Dr. Balaji Sampath, an AID Jeevan Saathi (Fellow) has been involved in bringing large scale changes in education and healthcare in Tamilnadu. Dr. Sampath is the first volunteer from AID US to have returned back to India to work on grassroots development issues full time after having gotten a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Ashoka Fellowship for social entrepreneurship and the MIT Indus Technovator of the Year Award. AID India's work has been supported by many leading organizations, such as UNICEF, Pratham etc. The Eureka program is a brainchild of Dr. Balaji Sampath and his close aides with a vision to promote quality learning for children in the rural villages of TamilNadu. Eureka has a huge base of rural volunteers in Tamil Nadu, who are trained in simple but revolutionary teaching techniques for Math, Science and Languages and then sent to schools to teach classes and demonstrate methods to the teachers. An after-school learning program is also being run in almost 600 rural villages in about 10 districts in Tamilnadu with the partnership of various organizations in the education sector. He will be awarded "Distinguished Alumni Award" by the University of Maryland, College Park in mid September.
