About the event

Marla Day, Presenter Feed Sacks to Clothing
March 28, 3:00 p.m. Marla Day – “Waste Not, Want Not: Reimagining Fashion Through Thrift Style”

During the Depression, reusing flour sacks, feed sacks as raw materials for clothing, curtains and other needs was common. This program highlights a collection of sacks from Kansas mills, thoughtfully selected to honor a family with deep Kansas roots in agricultural extension, 4-H, and a family-owned feed and farm supply store. Printing sacks with patterns was a sales technique and a common practice during this era.

Marla Day is the Curator of Kansas State University’s Historic Costume and Textile Museum in Manhattan.
