He has a long term clinical and research interest in Chronic KidneyDisease and it’s interface with other chronic conditions especially hypertension,diabetes and cardiovascular disease.He has held a variety of leadership roles such as Medical Director of the UK RenalRegistry from 2010-14, Clinical Advisor to HSC Business Services Organisation (2015-16) and Clinical Director of the regional unit (2018-21) and Northern Ireland’srepresentative to UK Kidney Association and Irish Society of Nephrology. His clinicaland research projects have resulted in over 140 published papers, a number of meta-analyses, 4 book chapters and numerous presentations.His clinical focus has been across all areas of renal medicine but in the last 10 years hehas led a focus on earlier CKD management with interface working alongside a rangeof colleagues but especially general practice teams using enhanced triage and promptadvice services. Using evidenced based interventions this has led to greatly reducedwaiting times & outcome avoidance. Outside work & family life he relaxes by organizingand ‘quietly’ participating in a twice-weekly football game.
