The Society was then in its eighth year and unique in having‘architectural heritage’ in its title. Resources were limited and publication wasonly possible after a grant from The Arts Council of Northern Ireland. AlthoughHugh Dixon generously claims he only arranged the words and it was the workof many people, his knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the architecture of Ulstershine through both editions of this groundbreaking bookThe book aimed to give general readers an overview of Ulster’s rich builtheritage. Substantial sales demonstrated its success, and its popularity wasboosted when a revised edition appeared in 2008. This version benefitted frominput from Terence Reeves-Smyth and Karen Latimer, and was illustrated withcolour pictures by Tony Merrick, Gail Pollock and others.In his lecture the author will recount how the book came about and will recallthe concern back in 1975 that a hardback with dust cover might be too expensiveif priced at £2!Copies of the 2008 revised edition of An Introduction to Ulster Architecture willbe on sale on the evening at the special rate of £12.50 or two copies for £20.• Tickets are available via Eventbrite from the UAHS website and should bepurchased in advance.Members: £12 Non-Members: £15 Students: £6• Wine/Soft Drinks and light refreshments (included in ticket price) will beserved from 6.30 pm. Lecture starts promptly at 7 pm.• Venue: Old Museum Building, 7 College Square North, Belfast BT1 6ARPlease note that due to the historic nature of The Old Museum Building, access is via a flight of stone steps.We regret that it is currently unsuitable for wheelchair users.
