Lit Up

Lit Up is back! The monthly poetry event with a twist: we encourage readers to read poems that have inspired them or that they cherish. There will be two selected headliners and open mic. To perform at the open mic just put your name down on the night, you can also read your own work but we do encourage other peoples' poems as well.
The payment of £5 at the door goes to CAP and the wonderful work they do.
This month we have two excellent, accomplished poets, husband and wife team: Colin Dardis and Geraldine Dardis O'Kane

Geraldine O’Kane is a poet, creative writing facilitator and mental health advocate. Her work has been published widely, most recently Arlen House, The Poetry Village, FourXFour Poetry Journal, Flare Magazine, and poems are forthcoming in the Purple House and Women's Aid anthologies. She was shortlisted for the Glebe House poetry prize and the Melita Hume poetry prize. She is founder and co-editor of Panning for Poems, an online and print micropoetry journal.

Geraldine is co-host of Purely Poetry a monthly poetry open mic night run in partnership with the Crescent Arts Centre. She has given a Talk for TEDx Belfast, read at First Fortnight and the Poems Upstairs Series in association with Poetry Ireland. She was a recipient of the Artist Career Enhancement Scheme (ACES) 2015/16 from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Her debut full collection is due in June 2020 from Salmon Poetry.

Colin Dardis is a poet, editor and arts coordinator, based in Belfast. He was an ACES '15-16 recipient from Arts Council Northern Ireland. His work has recently been listed in the Seamus Heaney Award for New Writing, Over The Edge New Writer of the Year Award, the Erbacce Prize and the Saboteur Awards, as well as being published widely throughout Ireland, the UK and USA. Colin co-runs Poetry NI, a multimedia platform for poets, for which he co-edits FourXFour Poetry Journal, and co-hosts the monthly open mic night, Purely Poetry. His latest collection is 'The Dogs of Humanity' (Fly on the Wall Press, 2019). He is a fan of ducks, naps and cheese.
