The Creative Oasis is a drop-in arts and crafts studio for all adults. It doesn't matter if you are a practicing artist or if you "don't have a creative bone in your body" - engaging in creative work with your hands has real effects on our bodies and minds that we ALL need to stay healthy.
We have a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere with quiet music, free coffee and tea, and help standing by to get you started on an activity - whether you are in the mood to play with a new material (have you tried chalk pastels?), learn a new skill (yes, YOU can draw!), need a brain-off activity to reduce stress (we have lots of those to choose from), or have something from home to work on, you're in good company.

For older adults, learning new activities and self-guided problem solving can keep our brains healthy and stave off dementia.
Visual self expression can help those with cognitive challenges get some relief and reconnect with non-verbal part of ourselves.
Low-pressure, exploratory processes with art supplies reduces cortisol levels, which boosts our immune system, reduces inflammation, and boosts mood.
Art really is the best medicine - no side effects, you get to choose-your-own, AND this program is no cost, though donations are always welcomed.
The Commons is also host to Lights Out Gallery, so we are surrounded by artwork to inspire! We have monthly art appreciation talks, too.

The Commons at 15 Main Street in Belfast currently has a 6" step at the entryway. We apologize for the exclusion this creates and would love to offer a Zoom option for those interested, until we have a fully accessible space!
