International Panel on Exiting Violence Conference (IPEV)
Three-day event to present the progress of IPEV
One year and a half after the Kick-Off of the International Panel on Exiting Violence in Paris, the panel will gather at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut to present the progress of its working groups.
The Beirut event event is decisive as it precedes the official publication of the report, in November 2018. The ten working groups will then highlight the main points of their respective chapters and meet during workshops in order to finalize their works and recommendations. The three-day conference will be the occasion for several roundtables, panel discussions and conferences with outstanding speakers from the panel and from all over the world.
An international, multidisciplinary community
The exchange of experiences and the building of a new, evidence-based research field is the objective of the International Panel on Exiting Violence (IPEV) launched in July 2016 by the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’homme with the principal support of Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Panel gathers an international, multidisciplinary community of a hundered of outstanding scholars and specialists who have gained recognition for their work on contemporary forms of political violence from different regions to produce policy options and establish an ongoing dialogue with policy-makers and field practitioners.
Exiting Violence as a new research field
Whereas violence has always constituted an important object of study in social sciences, the problem of the exit from violence has received less attention. Current research on the subject is still sparse and often confined to expertise. The IPEV aims to fill this gap by opening a new research field. Exiting violence, whether avoiding or mitigating it, encompasses a wide range of processes and stages, which integrate several levels of analysis, from individual to collective and from local to global. They take into account the processes of exiting violence experienced in various geographical areas (Middle East, Europe, Africa, Latin America).
Presentation of the report in Paris in November 2018
In its final conference at Fondation Maison des sciences de l'homme in November 2018, IPEV will present its recommendations to international institutions, policy-makers, NGOs and practitioners in a report collecting the contributions of its ten working groups.
The International Panel on Exiting Violence is supported by Carnegie Corporation of New York (IPEV's principal grant provider), the Commissariat à l’Égalité des Terroritoires (CGET), the Conseil supérieur de la Formation et de la Recherche Stratégique (CSFRS), the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Dabran Foundation.
