Tannoura means, most likely. "Earth oven" rather than "Skirt".
Level 6 (14km, 1000-1400m).
From Tannoura's heights, we go to "Mashnaqa" curious site, meaning the gallow. The trail climbs up to the"Qasr".
The word derives from "castle". It here designs a nice small Roman temple, in the middle of nowhere, in a purely mineral setting.
A narrow goat path continues to the ridge and to the highest hill to behold the majesty of snow-covered Mount Hermon.
The way down follows the meanders of "Wadi aj-Jehlane", a vale with an amusing name rendering mild foolishness.
We thus arrive to Faqaa, a cluster of few shepherd houses and the most challenging starting point to climb Hermon (2814m).
Unless the vale name has seeped into our minds, we ask leave from "His Majesty" and head in another direction.
Wel continue downhill for a while before attacking the last section, a good piece of until Rachaya town. Duration: 6h in all.
Level 4 (9km, 1000-1400m).
Same start as level 6. Same trail as well, done at at slower pace, to end in Faqaa. Duration: 5h in all.
From Faqaa, bus transfer to red-tiled Rachaya al-Wadi and visit one of the nicest villages of the Beqaa.
Dominated by "Qalaat Rachaya", dating back to Byzantimes, the fortress served as Pr*son for the Lebanese Independentists.
The traditional souks have been nicely restored. Rachaya is renowned for honey and grape molasses.
