Artificial Intelligence, known by AI, has a big share in this fast pace technological advancement. AI is the science of machines performing tasks with intelligence similar to humans. The applications of AI are numerous and apply to almost any domain!
Beirut AI is a local community that is part of a global network of AI communities around the globe (www.city.ai
). Our mission is to accelerate the adoption of AI (in all its forms) in businesses and companies, what we call Applied AI. We aim to create an all-inclusive community of talent in Lebanon, centered around Artificial Intelligence, where any member can join, connect and share knowledge with the rest.
Beirut AI gatherings are quarterly, 3-hour events for AI practitioners focusing on lessons learned applying AI. Each gathering consists of 3 elements enabling interactive sessions:

For many, drones are simply a novel gadget, a fun toy to fly around the neighborhood, snapping aerial images or even spying on neighbors. Rapidly growing in popularity, drone inspections capture data and deliver sophisticated analytics to stakeholders. They provide an affordable and efficient way to produce on-site, unintrusive inspection of assets. This talk will start with a brief introduction about NAR: what we do, why we're developing Raven AI, and what industries are using Raven AI. After that, we will be digging into the technological side of the startup and explain our Raven AI Framework, how does it scale, how we optimized it to run on Android & iOS phones and finally, talk about our vision with respect to the framework, AI & Drones.

The human mind is not prepared to process the large volume of information now available, and Internet users look to the digital world to discover new possibilities. Using machine learning and Artificial intelligence supports the creation of algorithms that replicate real-life logic used in decision-making when consulting friends or trusted experts about shared interests. Recommendation engines are making it possible to take the leap from merely organizing information to offering personalized suggestions or advice according to specific tastes or needs in an automated way.
In this talk we will go over the different steps to implement such algorithms in your e-commerce business: capturing data around all interesting topics of your business, scalable storage of data and ability to access and play with this data using tools such as Spark and Scala. Next, we’ll go over an open source tool called Prediction.io and talk about how we can feed and train the model using data, then finally, deployment and asking for recommendations.

The Internet of things (IoT) enabled systems have become increasingly available in practice. Examples include GM’s OnStar® tele-service system, the InSite® telemonitoring system from GE, smart home appliances and various personalized remote patient monitoring systems. The unprecedented data availability in such connected systems provides significant opportunities for smart data analytics but, at the same time, it reveals critical challenges. In this talk we detail these challenges and introduce some predictive analytics methodologies specifically tailored for IoT enabled systems.
