A POET DARES... (a short course in performance poetry)
Do you want to take your work as a performance poet to the next level? Fusing storytelling, poetic techniques and rap rhythms Lisa Luxx will guide you through the process of creating a spoken word piece which you’ll perform in a showcase. Come surprise yourself by expanding the power of your voice, and be ready to have your craft examined with keen-eyed attention.
The workshop will be a two day course for performance poets of all levels to build skills, confidence and community.
On Sunday night we will all perform our poetry together as part of a showcase, which you can invite friends and family to.
Workshops will run from 10am - 5pm Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August. Showcase will be at 8pm on Sunday 19th August.
Costs: $30 for the whole course.

About the facilitator:
Lisa Luxx is a writer, performer, philosopher and activist of British Syrian heritage. Broadcast on BBC Radio 4, VICE, TEDx, BBC Radio Leeds, ITV and heralded as one of the UK’s top four queer poets by Diva magazine.
Winner of the 2018 Outspoken Prize for Performance Poetry, she was also shortlisted for Peace Poetry Prize and Saboteur Awards Best Spoken Word Performer 2017. She’s a regular feature at major literary and arts events across the UK including performances at Royal Albert Hall, Latitude Festival and for UN Women’s #HeForShe campaign.
Her work has been published in magazines, anthologies and newspapers worldwide. She is an experienced poetry educator. And also a public speaker on topics relating to activism, power of language, and equality within the arts industry.
In 2017, Luxx toured a poetry show show based on her book by the same name, The 4th Brain; a journey back to nature through sisterhood, internet and revolution. Her next book, Breastmilk Martini will be out in Autumn 2018 with New River Press.
