In this class, we’ll explore several storm gods from across the Mediterranean and Near East and examine how the climates and landscapes of their regions influenced their myths, attributes, and roles in religious practice.

We’ll look at the ways people made sense of the storms they experienced and how dramatically those ideas could change from one region to another. Along the way, we’ll consider what happens when a culture’s environment doesn’t fit the patterns we might expect from its neighbors.

Come explore the intersection of mythology, religion, and the natural world, and discover what the weather can tell us about the gods.

About the instructor: Savrith (Xe/Xyr) is a non-binary sacerdos of Set for over 10 years. While having been devoted to the Kemetic pantheon for over 15 years, xe has only recently started sharing knowledge and experience queering practices. Xyr hobbies include falling down mythological rabbit holes, exploring the vast oasis of ‘-mancies’, and getting pulled into fantastical worlds
