This event is co-hosted by Cloverlea Foundation and the director of the Belk Observatory.
Continuing our intentions of hosting programs aligned with solstices and equinoxes and other astronomical events, we're celebrating the vernal equinox together with a campout and stargazing! Come for the whole evening or just the star gazing!
We have partnered with Belk Observatory and reserved the surrounding Sumerlin Summit field for the experience, where primitive tent camping will be allowed for this event.
Registration is required via the ticket link, open to all (suggested program contribution of $10 per person) and Cloverlea Foundation members receive member discounts and other benefits during the program.
Our partners and friends with Blue Ridge Astronomy Club will be helping with the event!
Tentative plan:
Saturday 3/21--------
5p-7p arrive at Belk Observatory field for camp load-in
6:30p Behind the scenes set up at Belk Observatory
6:45p Sunset walk (optional)
8:00p Stargazing at Belk Observatory with Messier Marathon observing challenge!
9:30p program ends, campers stay
Sunday 3/22--------
pack-out with leave-no-trace at Claytor by 10am
More details with driving instructions and expectations will be sent to registrants!
We will still host the event with cloudy weather. In the event of heavy rain or other inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.
