6:30pm, Saturday 29th November, Bedford Esquires
Ceremony extra event KLAXON - handful of early bird tickets available - move fast.
We thought it would be a great idea to welcome some of the alumni from previous Ceremony events back to Esquires to deliver another great event. Four acts in the main room (no trekking up and down the stairs folks!) The line-up goes like this…
She’s In Parties played Room 2 at Ceremony 3
She's In Parties are a hazy and ethereal UK quartet whose own idiosyncratic amalgamation of indie rock and dream-pop belies their relatively young years. The band is led by Irish-born singer Katie Dillon, alongside her friends Herbie Wiseman (Lead Guitar), Charlie Johnson (Bass) and Matt Carman (Drums). Taking their cues from the likes of Tears For Fears, Cocteau Twins and The Cure, the band harbour a sense of nostalgia whilst avoiding being derivative. Instead they succeed in marrying the classic and contemporary, resulting in an aesthetic and sound that’s both haunting and effortlessly cool.
Cucamaras played Room 2 at Ceremony 4.5
Nottingham born, Indie/ Post-punk four-piece Cucamaras are described by Dork as “A band stamping their authority on the next wave of alternative guitar music”. Forming in 2019, Cucamaras – Bowley, co-vocalist Josh Hart, bassist Dan McGrath and drummer Joe Newton – started out playing straight-up indie songs and gigging around Nottingham before, like many of us, they used the pandemic as an opportunity for reflection and reinvention. Wandering from breakneck post-punk to more rhythmic corners, there’s an urgency and zeitgeist-smashing greatness here waiting to blow apart the mundanity of your grim everyday existence.
djank (previously Cosmorat) played Room 2 at Ceremony 4
Formed by Taylor Pollock, djank is the amalgamation of all of the kitschy antiques your grandparents hoarded and all of the beers you stole in highschool. Formed into a big mess of heavy guitars, four part harmonies, DIY videos, and lofi cassette loops, djank take inspiration from folk, midwest emo, 90's pop, and whatever records or snippets of audio they find in charity shops and on Internet Archive.
Herbie May (from The Lounge Society) played the main room at Ceremony 3
Herbie, like so many of his generation, feels extremely bewildered on a daily basis. In an effort to find something stable, something reliable and honest, he has turned to matching playful lyricism with captivating melodies. He shares:
“I’ve spent 18 months not drinking, not taking any substances, not going out very much. Just reading and thinking and trying to make sense of the way we’re forced to exist now. These songs are the first results of that process. And then I got this chance to put them out and to play them live. And it’s a terrifying idea but also absolutely necessary.”
