- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 10 May, 2025 at 06:00 pm – Sat, 10 May, 2025 at 11:00 pm
- **Event Description**: We’re super excited to announce the opening exhibition for North Texas Ceramic Artist Holly Grey ! In the exhibition ‘How the West Was Won”, Grey’s work is a correlation between where she grew up on the prairie in Kansas, a few miles from the Oregon Trail, and the folk stories of “The Great Western Migration.”

Utilizing “Western” motifs in and on mold casted forms, “my intent is to highlight the significant consequence this migration had on demographics, ecology, economics, and politics shaping the United States into its modern form,” explains Grey

Grey is an artist based in Fairview, TX. She is an artist-in-residence at Glaze Ceramics Studio in McKinney, TX. Her work is currently included in the group exhibition “Contemporary Art 2025” at RTown Gallery, Grapevine, TX.

Grey is notorious for using thick glazes, pottery shards, sand, dirt, and other found materials to cover and transform the pristine cast forms.

The ‘How the West Was Won’ art exhibition will surprise gallery visitors with colorful and complex surfaces on familiar iconography. ARTIST STATMENT & BIO : My current work, “How the West Was Won,” is a direct correlation between where I grew up on the edge of the Konza prairie in Kansas, a few miles from the Oregon Trail, and the folk stories of “The Great Western Migration.” I utilize “Western” motifs and iconography in mold-casted forms to represent industrialization and the arrogance of “Manifest Destiny” that fueled Western expansion. These concepts contrast with my interest in Indigenous cultures, culminating in the narrative of my work.
I use thick glazes, pottery shards, sand, dirt, and other found materials to cover and transform the pristine cast forms. My intention is to highlight the significant consequence this migration had on demographics, ecology, economics, and politics shaping the United States into its modern form.
