Kristen Clevenson, assistant curator at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in New York City, will explore the extraordinary life and legacy of Texas-born artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008), showcasing the innovative works of one of the most daring and impactful artists of the 20th century, with special attention to his “mostly Texas” disposition.

Born in 1925 in Port Arthur, Rauschenberg pushed the boundaries of what defines art for six decades, working in a diverse range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and performance. Throughout his trailblazing career, he highlighted his Texas roots in numerous artworks. In October 1993, Rauschenberg signed a letter to then-Governor of Texas, Ann Richards, “Love from me in Florida + mostly Texas,” underscoring his affinity for the Lone Star State.

Clevenson has served as assistant curator at the New York-based Robert Rauschenberg Foundation since 2019. She recently curated Robert Rauschenberg: Signs and Signals (1964–94) at the Foundation, and her research has been published by Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery.

In 2022, Clevenson received her master’s degree in art history from Hunter College, City University of New York. She also holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia.
