This class is all about texture, movement, and playful experimentation using an unexpected material: wall spackle.

In Creating with Wall Spackle, students will build a richly textured abstract painting featuring a magnolia set inside the outline of Louisiana or Mississippi. 
You’ll layer spackle with acrylic paint using sponge brushes and palette knives (no tiny brushwork here), creating depth and interest in both the background and the magnolia itself. 
This class is perfect if you love trying new techniques, enjoy working intuitively, or just want a creative reset that feels fresh and fun.
You’ll leave with a finished 12" x 12" canvas—and the satisfaction of having played with purpose.

About the Instructor
Samantha Hallenus has been teaching art in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana since 2005 and has worked extensively with youth since 2009 through the local recreation department. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Orleans, where she also studied art, and is currently a member of the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department. Prior to 2012, Samantha exhibited throughout Louisiana, participated in juried shows, and studied with a renowned watercolorist. Her classes are known for being welcoming, encouraging, and technique-rich.
