This is a 3.1 km loop. All ages are welcome. This event is free of charge.

Join us after the hike at the WaterWitch Cafe in Cupids for a social and review of our observations!

Have you ever seen a strange critter and wished you could ask a scientist what it was? iNaturalist is like having professors in your pocket! iNaturalist is an app that allows users to upload evidence of living things and suggests an identification for the organism. Other scientists using the app can either verify or suggest another ID! Want to learn more about iNaturalist and practice your nature identification skills?

Join the project on iNaturalist under project name:
Burnt Head BioBlitz 2026

Please wear supportive/waterproof footwear depending on the weather this is an entirely outdoor event.

In the meantime, you can download the free app iNaturalist (on your phone or tablet) and create an account if you don't have one already. Under Projects you can search and join
Burnt Head BioBlitz 2026

Here is a quick overview on how to make an "observation" on the app or desktop version: https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/getting+started

“iNaturalist currently has separate native mobile apps for Android and iOS/iPadOS, and they are not equivalent in design or functionality, with the Android app having more features and functionality than the iOS/iPadOS app, such as more Explore filters and the ability to add annotations and Data Quality Assessment votes to observations. This difference is due to the fact that iNaturalist has had a dedicated Android developer, whereas developer time for the iOS/iPadOS app has been split with development of iNaturalist's Computer Vision functionality”

About the Burnt Head Trail:
The trailhead is located between the Anglican Cemetery and Perchance Theatre, at the top of Burnt head Loop. The route follows traditional rough tracks and coastal paths in an easy loop of 3.1 km (gentle ups and downs and some stairs). Along the way you’ll find woods, meadows and ocean vistas, a natural sea arch, a small waterfall and traces of previous settlements as well as blueberries when in season. Please use caution near cliffs. Look for trail interpretation signs with QR code links. You can read more about the trail here: https://cupidstrails.blogspot.com/.../burnt-head-and...

About Cupids Trails Committee:
Cupids Trails Committee is a volunteer Committee of the Town of Cupids. We are responsible for the upkeep and appropriate development of the two trails in our jurisdiction: Burnt Head (a loop trail and the longest, at about 3 km) and Spectacle Head Trail above Cupids Harbour (a there-and-back trail about 1 km each way). We recently designed and brought online an interpretation website that can be accessed on the trails by scanning any of the 15 QR codes at points along the Burnt Head trail and at 6 locations along the Spectacle Head trail. There are three interpretive themes:
1. Geological evidence about the ancient landscape of Cupids
2. Information about the lives and beliefs of the residents of the communities
3. Historical information about settlements along the trails

See you in Cupids!
