Paddle people, water lovers, sunshine chasers, and anyone itching to get “out there” before summer turns the thermostat to devilish: spring has arrived, and it’s time to Go Wild on the Colorado River.
Bay City Parks and Recreation invites the community to the Annual Rally on the River, a free, family-friendly outdoor celebration on Saturday, April 25, at Riverside Park, located at 7330 FM 2668, just south of Bay City.
This beloved springtime event celebrates all things water and wilderness, welcoming kayaks, canoes, rafts, rowers, and general river enthusiasts of all experience levels. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a curious first-timer, Rally on the River is designed for muscle-powered adventure, outdoor discovery, and laid-back river fun.
Event Highlights Include:
• Rally on the River Paddle
Participants will paddle the scenic Colorado River from Riverside Park to the LCRA Dam and back — approximately 7 miles roundtrip, with the option to turn around early for a shorter, choose-your-own-adventure experience. This stretch of river is known for frequent wildlife sightings, including wading birds, bald eagles, pileated woodpeckers, songbirds, fish, and other native species.
Paddling begins at 9:00 a.m. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Wardens will accompany the flotilla in a powered chase boat, equipped with first aid supplies, supplemental water, and a tow rope to ensure a safe and supported outing.
• On-Shore Activities
While paddlers hit the water, land-based fun keeps rolling with Fishing 101, a TPWD Touch Tank, nature-themed games, and hands-on crafts — perfect for kids, families, and non-paddlers who still want in on the action.
• Kayak Rentals Available
Riverside Park has a limited number of kayaks available for rent. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through Rent.Fun.
• Camp the Weekend
Want to turn your river day into a river weekend? Riverside Park offers 74 campsites ready for tents, trailers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Camping reservations can be made at www.campriverside.org.
There is no day-use fee for Riverside Park on April 25 during the event.
