Community input is vital to shaping the county’s priorities, ensuring that every voice is heard in the planning process. Survey results will help guide discussions and decisions at the retreat.
The December retreat follows an initial Community Leadership Retreat held in October, where representatives from the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce, Development Authority of Appling County, City of Baxley, Appling County Board of Commissioners, Appling County School System, Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism, Downtown Development Authority of Baxley, and Appling Healthcare gathered to review the Joint Comprehensive Plan and develop the framework for the community-wide session.
During that earlier retreat, participants affirmed that Baxley-Appling County is a community deeply rooted in family values, collaboration, and resourcefulness—with strong foundations in education and industry. While the county excels in building relationships and supporting youth, leaders recognized opportunities to strengthen infrastructure, inclusivity, and communication across organizations.
The community’s shared vision looks toward economic stability, expanded housing and recreational opportunities, and a thriving, diverse population. The upcoming retreat will serve as a platform for residents and leaders alike to unify around shared goals, celebrate local strengths, and craft actionable strategies that preserve Baxley’s small-town charm while embracing future growth and opportunity.
Copies of the Community Leadership Retreat summary, Joint Comprehensive Plan, and the link to the community survey are available by contacting the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce.
