Voyageurs were labourers who transported goods, furs, and supplies by canoe and overland routes, often traveling long distances under demanding conditions.The games reflect the practical abilities Voyageurs needed to survive and succeed: strength, endurance, accuracy, speed, teamwork, and deep knowledge of the natural environment. Tasks such as portaging heavy loads, chopping wood, sawing logs, building fires, preparing food, and making animal calls were not sports but essential daily work.Now, turning these traditional skills into friendly competitions celebrate heritage, share stories, and pass knowledge between generations.
