Stories, Friendship & Creativity at Oakwell Hall
✨ Inspired by the lifelong friendships of Charlotte Brontë, Ellen Nussey, Mary Taylor and Margaret Wooler, join artists Amy Foster and Natasha Jackson for an inspiring series of free creative workshops at Oakwell Hall:
🖋️ Explore creative writing 🎨 Learn illustration techniques 🧱 Build your own ceramic book
Across six sessions, you’ll write, sketch, and sculpt a beautiful miniature ceramic book— inspired by those Charlotte Brontë made as a child. No experience necessary, just bring your imagination!
Workshop Programme
In Session 1, we’ll begin with creative writing, guiding you through how to capture your memories of Oakwell and the connections you’ve made here.
Session 2 will focus on illustration, teaching you how to bring your writing to life visually by focusing on detail, composition and personal style.
In Session 3, we’ll introduce ceramics, learning hand-building techniques to create your own ceramic book, a piece that will later hold your artwork.
As part of a lasting contribution to Oakwell, Session 4 invites you to help design a ceramic street sign or wayfinder for Oakwell Hall. This collaborative piece will become a permanent feature of the park.
In Session 5, we’ll bring that design to life using new ceramic methods and techniques.
Session 6 wraps up with ceramic transfers, where your illustrations will be transferred onto your ceramic books, creating beautiful miniature books.
All of the work created during the workshops will be part of a miniature community library, permanently housed at Oakwell Hall, a celebration of local stories, creativity and connection.
Please Note: If you can’t make the Friday sessions, please still come along on Saturday, we’ll make sure to catch you up!
