Explore the mystical sounds and images of Hildegard von Bingen, a 12th-century musician, theologian, philosopher, botanist, doctor, former magistra (mother superior), current saint, and one of the first-named music composers. Hildegard experienced visions (“umbra viventis lucis” or “the reflection of the living light”) starting at the age of three. Taking inspiration from her life and artwork, this multimedia concert highlights four of her most famous visions and spiritual concepts. This multimedia concert features music by The Pandora Consort and projected images of medieval artwork animated by Cate Duckwall. It features members of the Pandora Consort - Kendra Comstock, Angie Tyler, Gina Marie Falk, voices, and harmonium.
It bridges generations, connects friends, and strengthens communities. That’s why the Portland Bach Experience tears down barriers and challenges preconceived notions about classical music by offering a wide range of events, venues, and prices — including many free programs. Experiences are anchored in the classical tradition and include full orchestral performances, intimate salons in private homes and art galleries, public sing-alongs, outdoor performances, and hands-on events for children.
Whether you are curious to discover classical music in a bistro, eager to introduce your grandchild to the cello, moved by hearing an orchestra, or just looking for a fresh idea for date night, Portland Bach Experience offers innovative musical adventures in unexpected places.
