Batavia, NY — April 14, 2026 — The Batavia Society of Artists is pleased to present a special live demonstration by acclaimed illustrator and mixed media artist Laura Kemler on Tuesday, April 14th from 7:00–9:00 PM at GO ART! in Batavia, New York.
This engaging evening will feature a Figure Illustration and Watermedia Demo, where attendees will experience Laura’s distinctive artistic process firsthand. Known for her richly layered, nostalgic style, Laura will demonstrate how she transforms inspiration from vintage photographs and Americana into expressive, full-color illustrations using watermedia techniques.
Laura Kemler is a professional illustrator, fiber artist, and mixed media creator, as well as a published children’s book illustrator. Her work centers on the human figure, capturing everyday moments from decades past with warmth and storytelling depth. Drawing inspiration from old black-and-white photographs, vintage advertisements, and mid-century design, her artwork invites viewers to reconnect with the emotion and simplicity of earlier times.
With over 35 years of teaching experience, Laura has instructed students of all ages and skill levels in a wide range of artistic disciplines. Her teaching has taken her from local art schools and private lessons to international classrooms, including work with young students in Bradford, England. She encourages artists to embrace mistakes as part of the creative journey and believes in continually exploring new mediums rather than limiting oneself to a single style.
Laura’s impressive career includes a full scholarship to Genesee Community College for Commercial Art and an AAS in Illustration and Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Her portfolio features commissioned portraits, album cover art, billboards, published children’s books (available on Amazon), and a growing YouTube presence through her channel “La La LauraLoxley,” where she shares tutorials in gouache, watercolor, ink, colored pencil, and more.
“Creativity is the fuel behind all great art,” says Kemler. “My goal is to help others see the beauty in storytelling through imagery and to not be afraid of the process.”
This demo is open to the public and offers a unique opportunity for artists, students, and art enthusiasts to learn from a seasoned professional in an intimate and inspiring setting.
