Batavia Players invites performers to audition for Rupert Holmes’ Tony Award-winning musical comedy The Mystery of Edwin Drood, directed and choreographed by Sophie Houseman, with rehearsal and pit piano accompaniment by John Novak. Performances will run November 6–8, 2026.

Audition Dates
Monday, August 24 at 6:00 PM
Friday, August 28 at 6:00 PM
Callbacks: Sunday, August 30 at 6:00 PM
Not every auditionee will be asked to attend callbacks.

What to Prepare
Please prepare a 32-bar musical-theatre selection in the style of the show. Do not prepare a song from The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Auditions will begin with a dance call, followed by individual vocal auditions. Please wear clothing and footwear that allow you to move comfortably.

About the Production
This production will approach Drood through a fresh, contemporary lens. Performers should bring bold, original character choices rather than attempting to imitate a stereotypical English music-hall style.

Casting will emphasize acting, storytelling, character interpretation, audience connection, healthy vocals, and a willingness to commit physically to a movement-heavy production. Except where specifically required by the script, roles will not be restricted by gender, age, race, or traditional casting conventions.

Because the musical includes multiple possible endings and alternate character outcomes, cast members should expect a substantial rehearsal commitment and may need to learn material that is not performed at every performance.
