CRFM Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (in person and online)

Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) is partnering with the Department of Marine Resources (Saint Kitts and Nevis), National Fisherfolk Organisation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Caribbean Network of Fisherfolk Organisations to convene the CRFM SMALL-SCALE FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE FORUM.

Small-scale fisheries and aquaculture in CARICOM/CRFM States make a valuable contribution to poverty alleviation, food and nutrition security, employment and income generation, economic growth, and social stability. They provide livelihood security for members of society, including women and youth. The purpose of the Caribbean Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum is to highlight the critical role of the sector in contributing to the region’s social, economic, environmental, and climate resilience.

This session will explore varying dimensions of the actual and potential contributions of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector to the 25 x 2025 + 5 vision of the Caribbean Community, with a special focus on mainstreaming gender and youth participation, in accordance with the directives of the CRFM Ministerial Council.

We will also showcase the advances made by the Caribbean Network of Fisherfolk Organisations towards the implementation of the CNFO/CRFM Small-Scale Fisheries Action Plan 2023-2025: Contributing to Achieving the 25% Reduction by 2025 in the Caribbean Community Food Import Bill. We furthermore engage in dialogue on the critical actions needed to forge a more resolute direction on the way forward.
