The 6th and 7th of 8 races for the 2025 WildWater Season
Location: Bells Rapid Park, Brigadoon
Check in: 08:30am-09:00am
Briefing: 09:15am
Race start: 09:30am
WWR #6 Lower Bells (Type A - single run)
Course: Starting from the pool below Dogs Breakfast, competitors race 300m's through the lower section of Bell's Rapids where the river consists of submerged obstacles and exposed rocks, finishing after Bolland's Elbow.
WWR #7 Upper Bells (Type B - best of 2)
Starting from a pool above the Bell's Rapids foot bridge, and racing downstream 250m (or 400m) to below Sideswipe Rapid, competitors face a technical section of the river consisiting of Bell's main drop, Devil's Slide and Sideswipe rapids. This section of the Avon River displays fast moving water, submerged objects and exposed rock. The race start will be determined based on competitor safety and the river levels of the day.
Transport: A car shuffle is NOT required prior to Race Check In.
Due to the recent popularity of Bell's Rapid Park, competitors are urged to arrive early to ensure parking and access to the river.
Safety: Due to hazards and obstacles along the course, it is necessary for all paddlers to wear helmets and PFD’s. Each competitor should also have a whistle attached to their PFD for emergency situations.
It is also recommended for all paddlers to have grab loops on their boats to assist rescue and for kayaks to have floats/buoyancy inside their boats to ensure boats do not fill with water in the case of a capsize. All kayak paddlers will require cockpit skirts with appropriate grab loop for ease of escape from a capsized boat.
Whilst we welcome paddlers of all skill levels, it is expected that competitors can self assess personal risk based on their own competency and the section of river and it's associated levels. The race organisers and safety officials reserve the right to withdraw any competitor at any stage of the event if deemed necessary to ensure the competitors personal safety.
The race is open to all boats, with the Championship only open to boats classed as wildwater/downriver kayaks as per ICF regulations. These include overall length of no more than 4.5m, with no rudder (or with their rudder tied up)
Sundries Note (Boats not classed wildwater/downriver kayaks)
For those entering in the 2025 Sundries Series, you are eligible to race in non-WildWater/downriver boats only where you are in a competition type boat. Playboat and recreational type craft are not permitted to race.
This is a timed individual event, where Sundry competitors will receive a timed result and ranking, but will not be awarded season points towards the WildWater Championship.
