Prior experience is not essential - the count focuses on insect groups rather than detailed species identification, making it accessible to beginners.The surveyThe surveys offer you a simple way of monitoring abundance and diversity of pollinating insects over time on a specified site. When repeated on a regular basis the data is useful as it gives you a picture of whether abundance and diversity is decreasing, staying the same, or increasing over time. This can help inform management of the site.More detail on the survey is provided on the Pollinator Toolkit | Hampshire County Council webpages. Please read the 'Pollinator Count Form' and 'Pollinator Count ID' documents prior to attending the training.Further detail and agendaFree parking is available at the Hatch Warren Community Centre. Disabled parking, access and toilet facilities are available. See 'location' section below for information on how to find us including using public transport.We will have an initial discussion and Q&A before completing a demonstration survey with the group which involves walking around a nearby greenspace. The event is entirely outdoors so please be prepared for weather conditions on the day.As there are limited spaces we suggest a maximum of 2-3 people per group/booking.Cancellation in case of extreme weatherWe hope that the weather will be in our favour but we will go ahead even if it is not ideal weather for pollinators. At the very least we can still show you the survey methodology even if there are no pollinators to see. We will only cancel in case of extreme weather, if this is the case we will notify you by 4pm on the day before, so please check your emails before travelling.
