Morgan Grefe on Monday, June 22 at 6 pm as we contemplate our nation’s 250th anniversary in comparison to the Bicentennial in 1976. Since 1822, the RIHS has set forth to collect archives and items that allow us to preserve and share many aspects of this small state’s vast history from manuscripts, maps, photographs, and objects, as well as news footage, B-roll, and even home movies.

Grefe will highlight the RIHS Moving Image and Audio Collection and share clips from 1976 to hear and see how Rhode Island marked the Bicentennial throughout the state. They will also discuss how the Barrington 250 time capsule project will preserve a record of “We the People” of 2026 for future town residents to explore. What objects, topics, and formats will tell our story in the future?
