Described as a "charismatic" (The Bath Festival) and "most subtle and able artist" (Perthshire Advertiser), Toronto-born guitarist Tim Beattie “dazzles … moving between textures and moods with ease.” (Musicworks Magazine)
Tim Beattie gained international recognition after winning the 2018 Brussels International Guitar Competition. His career has since taken him to stages across North America and Europe, earning prizes at the international competitions in Antwerp, Brussels, Calgary, Enschede, Leicester, Manhattan, and Uppsala.
Beattie has performed at prestigious venues and festivals including Carnegie Hall (Weill Hall), Amsterdam Concertgebouw (supporting Ludovico Einaudi), Amsterdam Blue Note (with Nai Barghouti), Banff Centre, The Bath Festival, FirstOntario Concert Hall (supporting KD Lang), Kitaranova Festival Helsinki, Perth Concert Hall, and Théâtre du Vaudeville Brussels. His performances have also been featured on Dutch National TV and BBC Radio Scotland.
A committed chamber musician, Beattie enjoys regular collaborations with cellist Daniel Hamin Go, guitarist Sasha Savaloni, actor Tucker St Ivany, the Coulthard Trio, and Quartet Malamatina, alongside production tours with Canadian Opera Company, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Scottish Opera.
Beattie was a scholarship student at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he completed his BMus in 2019 with honours (cum laude). He then undertook fully funded postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, earning an MMus in 2021 and an Artist Diploma in 2022. In 2022, he became the only guitarist ever invited to join the prestigious Rebanks Family Fellowship at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He is currently pursuing a PhD on a full doctoral studentship at the University of Surrey (UK). His studies and artistic projects have been supported by the Amsterdam University of the Arts ‘AHK Talent Grant’, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada Council for the Arts, CIM Trust, Guitar Society of Toronto, RCS Trust, Royal Overseas League, Sylva Gelber Foundation, Tillett Trust, Weston Family Foundation, and The Worshipful Company of Musicians.
