Palliative Care and Symptom Management for People with End-Stage Dementia
This day starts with establishing the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology of the brain. Learners will gain an understanding on the effects of dementia upon the individual and explore the progressive disorders within the syndrome. By the end of the course, learners will understand how to manage end of life symptoms within dementia care (Pain/discomfort, agitation and restlessness, nausea and vomiting) considering both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
To have knowledge and understanding of end of life care for individuals with dementia
Recall the basic structure and functions of the brain
Describe the common types and incidence of dementia
Identify symptoms associated with end of life care in advanced dementia
Understand the importance of holistic care of the dying patient with dementia.
