This is a Girls in STEM event to celebrate British Science Week - making the science of engineering more attractive to girls through hands-on and creative activities.
WHAT IS ARTineers?
ARTineers is a 2 hour workshop is a blend of Art & Engineering, using examples of biomimicry seen in everyday designs to inspire our own artwork piece. The event has been funded by the British Science Association, which means we can offer this event for free and for girls only.
The workshop is led by local scientist, Ruth from Sciencedipity & local artist, Hannah from Hannah's Art Pod.

Did you know that the UK has the lowest percentage of female engineering professionals in Europe, at less than 10%, yet make up almost half of the workforce! There are several initiatives to alter this gender gap, by making physics and engineering more attractive subjects for women to study. We hope that the ARTineers workshop will offer an alternative look at engineering & design which will appeal to girls.
First discover the amazing and beautiful patterns & fractals seen in nature, get close to some of these using microscopes. We explore how these patterns have been used in structural and functional designs all around us, this is termed Biomimicry. We'll each create our own collage artwork inspired by the patterns and examples we have seen.
