- **Event Description**: After two blockbuster years at TheatreFest with ‘Native Wit’, Agbo Play returns to Barnstaple with a brand new performance workshop – ‘The Covenant’.


Both born and brought up in West Africa, award winning artists Ayodele Scott and David Evans are Devon-based and have worked together for over thirty years. Participants playfully join in the making of this Yoruba Creation Myth, quickly engaging in song, rhythm, dance and the spoken word to powerfully invoke this African genesis. Through irresistible rhythms and sacred words the audience become participants in the creation of our world and experience the emergence of humankind from primordial chaos.


Together everyone is invited to re-discover their deep affinity with the natural world. As the story unfolds, humankind’s critical role as champions of our environment is revealed. Ayodele and David conjure their African stories with humour, cultural insights and virtuoso performance skills. “..marvel at their powerful stories, infectious wit, physical prowess and drumming dexterity…precision engineering for the imagination.” Richard Wolfenden-Brown Artistic Programmer, Plough Arts, Torrington.


This performance workshop has something for everyone. The playful and non-threatening approach is ideal for young families, for performers who want to stretch their skills and the curious who choose to sit and watch.
